November 26th, 2008 | Category: Geek Stuff, Technology

“Stallion” has 220 million pixels to display visualizations created by supercomputers at TACC.  We missed seeing this wonder on our last visit to TACC because it was having new software installed.

Maybe next time!

Overclocker’s Update

November 13th, 2008 | Category: Geek Stuff, Technical Education Awareness, Technology

Our TSTC team 5G (one teacher and two students) went to Los Angeles as a part of the Tom’s Hardware Worldwide Overclocking Championship 2008. Although they didn’t win first, they put in a respectable showing and will probably compete again (and they got an all-expense paid trip to LA, as well).

Congratulations Team 5G!!!

Previous references to TSTC’s overclocking enthusiasts here and here.

P.S. If you are unclear on the “overclocking” thing, check it out here.

UPDATE:  Complete coverage of day 2 here.

Great Coverage of Technical Dual Credit

November 04th, 2008 | Category: Academic Skills, Dual Credit, Technical Education Awareness

Channel 25 out of Waco did a great story on our collaboration with Waco Independent School District on technical dual credit. My boss, President Elton Stuckly is interviewed and so is Donna McKethan from WISD.

You will also see students who are taking an integrated Math class that teaches math with technology. I blogged about that here.

Election Day Philosophical Fun

November 04th, 2008 | Category: General

OK. This is completely unrelated, but after this long election season we all need a laugh. I’d like to dedicate this post to my Philosophy prof at Howard Payne University. Dr. Wallace Roark.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

You need to have REALLY liked the subject to enjoy the video. If you didn’t then just celebrate it as the end of the campaign commercial season.
